Raspberry and Blueberry Smoothie

Smoothies are one of those things that we usually buy ready made as they can be costly to make from scratch, however, if you like them enough to make a big batch or have any mounds of fruit lying around that need using up this is a great time to think about getting the blender out and russling up a drink. Any fruit can be used, the smoothie rules are pretty loose, but blueberry and raspberry go really well together. Plus, they were selling mounds of them off cheap at the market and the whole thing ended up costing about £2 to make and I had smoothies for the next few days.

You can add a dollop of ice-cream to this to make it a richer, dessert type drink.

Wash any fruit before using and peel if necessary.

250g raspberry's
500g blueberry's
1 large banana
300ml milk
100ml natural yoghurt
1 tsp honey
8 Ice-cubes

Peel and slice the banana, wash the raspberry's and blueberries. put these in a large bowl with the yoghurt, milk and honey and give them a whizz with a hand-held blender or in a food processor.

If you are using a hand held blender I find it easier to put the ice cubes in a plastic sandwich bag, hold the top tight and bash the bag a few times with something heavy like a rolling pin till the ice is well crushed. Add half the ice to the mixture and give it another blend.

Put the remaining ice into the glasses and pour the mixture on top. Give it all a good stir before drinking.
